Private Label Guide

Launch a private-label Chinese matcha without guessing.

This guide walks through the decisions that actually shape a launch: grade, packaging, documents, sample workflow, and the inputs a supplier needs to quote a repeatable first order.

Chinese matcha for private labelStart from the shelf, not the farm

Define the retail or café result you want to sell first - tin, sachet, bulk pouch - then select the grade and spec that deliver it.

Step 1

Pick the grade by the cup, not by the label.

"Ceremonial" and "culinary" are marketing words, not regulated grades. What matters for a launch is the cup result your customer will actually taste and see.

Colour and mouthfeel

For lattes and retail tins, buyers usually want a bright, clean green and a smooth, umami-forward taste without harsh bitterness. Request the particle size and shade-grown or tencha-base information that supports that result.

Application fit

A matcha that shines as a straight usucha may not be the most cost-effective choice for a milk-heavy latte. Tell the supplier the serving format - whisked, iced latte, bakery dusting - so the sample is selected around it.

Step 2 - Confirm the documents early

Before a deposit, clarify the available scope: Certificate of Origin, packing list, commercial invoice, and the residue / micro testing tied to the lot. Market-specific documents (for example EU or US import expectations) should be discussed up front rather than discovered at customs.

Step 3 - Plan the packaging

Private label usually means tins, sachets, or stand-up pouches with your artwork. Confirm minimum print runs, the阻隔 material for colour protection, and whether the supplier handles the filling or ships bulk for you to pack locally.

Step 4

Run a focused sample before you commit volume.

A good sample connects the tea with tasting notes, specification, packaging options and indicative pricing. Treat the sample as the proof that the first bulk order will repeat.

What to evaluate

Whisk a small bowl and make your target latte. Check colour stability in milk, dissolution, aftertaste, and how the spec compares to your current benchmark. Note the lot number so the bulk order matches.

What to send the supplier

Your target retail or café price, pack size, monthly volume estimate, destination market, and desired launch date. Those inputs turn a vague enquiry into a quotable brief.

Indicative numbers (reference)

Private-label matcha often starts from a MOQ around 50 kg for bulk, with branded packs subject to print minimums. Reference FOB ranges vary widely by grade and spec - use them to sanity-check a quote, not as a price list. Confirm per lot.

Recommended first move

Choose one SKU outcome, write the recipe or retail format, and open a Product Brief. We reply to every one with the next useful step - sample, spec, or a clarification question.
